Rare example of a tessen war fan.
Made of metal blades, the tessen could be used as a weapon in its own right, but its use also developed when samurai were not allowed to carry swords. A tessen could be taken anywhere.
A fine example in black lacquered paper on the front, with a gold and beige circle motif on the reverse, decorated with the Toyotomi clan emblem.
Edo - late 17th/early 18th c.
Dim. 50 x 30 cm
Very good state of preservation, despite some damage to the paper (it should be noted that the tessen are fragile). Rarely still in good condition).
Sold with its period wooden box.
(n.b. restoration in a partner professional restoration workshop is possible on quotation).
