Triptych of Japanese ukiyo-e prints signed Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900) depicting kabuki theater actors (Onoe Kikugoro, Ichikawa Danjuro and Ichikawa Sadanji) in the play "The morning east wind dispels the southwest clouds" (Okige no Kumo Harau Asagochi).
A highly successful play centered on the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877, when disgruntled samurai rose up against the new Meiji rulers because their privileged status had been abolished by government reforms.
Printed in oban tate-e format.
Very good condition, no stains, no tears.
