From November 5 to 23, 2024, the Centre Japonais des Collectivités Locales (CLAIR Paris) is organizing the 12th edition of its event "Synergies between tradition and modernity - Local crafts at the cutting edge of innovation" at the Maison de la Culture du Japon in Paris.
With the exceptional participation of 22 Japanese departments and cities, this exhibition-sale will showcase several hundred handcrafted creations, each one the embodiment of know-how handed down from generation to generation.
Traditional craftsmanship in the various regions of the archipelago is at the origin of monozukuri, the art of designing and making objects. Even today, the refined design, precision craftsmanship and exceptional quality of these creations enrich the daily lives of the Japanese.
Through three dimensions of Japanese life - clothing(I), tableware(Shoku), and housing(Jû) - these handicrafts illustrate the wealth of traditional know-how combined with a subtle adaptation to contemporary tastes.
This celebration of the "regional art of living" will offer visitors a true immersion in the heart of Japan's regions, showcasing a diversity of craft techniques: silk, textiles, glass, lacquer, goldsmithing, ceramics, cutlery, wood, washi paper, and much more.
Workshops and a conference led by the artisans themselves will be offered on reservation via the MCJP website(www.mcjp.fr):
- AMA Women Divers" conference (Toba / Department of Mie)
- Kintsugi workshop (Kyoto Department)
- Niigata lacquerware demonstration (Niigata / Niigata Prefecture)
- Chopstick polishing workshop (Niigata / Niigata Prefecture)
- Kumiko coaster-making workshop (Nagano Prefecture)
- Tokyo Some-Komon dyeing workshop (Tokyo Prefecture)
Come and marvel at these unique creations that celebrate the heritage and innovation of Japanese craftsmanship.
