Kakejiku (kakemono), ink painting depicting a female bugaku dancer dressed in pastel-colored court garb: blue, water green, pink and touches of gold. She holds a hiōgi fan and adopts a graceful posture characteristic of imperial ritual dances.
(n.b. Bugaku was an exclusively imperial art, handed down by families of artists attached to the palace for centuries).

The work is fine, with soft nuances typical of early Shōwa nihonga.
The background is lightly speckled with gold (kirihaku).

Early 20th c. Shōwa (1930).
Beautifully preserved despite a few stains.
Long format, easy to hang on the wall.
